Wheat-Straw-Derived Activated Biochar as a Renewable Support of Ni-CeO2 Catalysts for CO2 Methanation

Ceria- and urea-doped activated biochars were used as support for Ni-based catalysts CO2 methanation purposes. Different materials prepared tested to find the best catalytic formulation. After several experiments—carried out at 0.35–1.0 MPa 300–500 °C—it was found that most suitable catalyst a wheat-straw-derived biochar loaded with 30 wt.% of CeO2 20 Ni. Using this catalyst, conversion 65% CH4 selectivity 95% reached 1.0 MPa, 400 °C, 13,200 h−1. From study influence gas hourly space velocity, it deduced likely reaction mechanism reverse water–gas shift reaction, followed by CO hydrogenation. N-doping carbon an alternative use ceria also investigated. However, both toward values clearly lower than those obtained ceria-containing cited above. The outcomes work indicate renewable biomass-derived can be effectively employed in methane.
